Daniellll asked:

I have some homework to do, and we have to advertise a shcool fair to raise money for a new school minibus…

I was wondering if there where any sites to give me hints and tips to get a good GCSE grading for advertising, including hints and tips and stuff….

I’ve searched the web, and i cant find anything… Do you know of any i dont???

Thanks…
PS. we only have to write the text for the advertising leaflet, so i dont need tips with colour or anything… just how to successfully ’sell’ something… in effect…

    One Response to “Advertising?”

A good ad (brochure, flyer, commercial) has several components. Here are just a few to consider:

      1. IT’S ATTENTION-GETTING
The headline should reach out and grab the reader’s attention. Perhaps you could give thought to coming up with a slogan for the Fair? Here are some ideas that might tie in with the Fair/Minibus concept?

      Your Ticket To Ride
      Mini-Bus - Maximum Fun!
      Jump on the Bus
      Minibus FUNdRAISER

(These are rather weak, but you see where I’m going with them, right?)

      2. W-I-I-F-M?
Everyone who sees you ad will want to know What’s In It For Me? Why should they care about the school fair? Are there prizes? Is it a chance to impress their girlfriend? What emotional any physical benefit will they gain from attending the Fair? It could be as simple as “feeling good about supporting their school/community.”

      3. 5 W’S AND AND H
Make sure your ad/flyer covers all the basics: Who is sponsoring the fair, What the event is called, Where it is going to be held, When the fair is being held, Why the fair is being held, and How the reader can lend their support.

      4. THINK OF THE FAIR AS A PROMOTION
Are there special things you could do to help raise funds for the bus? For example, one popular idea is to have a JAIL at the fair. For $1, you can have the FAIR police “arrest” anyone at the fair and put them in jail for ten minutes. If the person arrested doesn’t want to stay in jail, they can pay a $1 fine. Often times, the person who was arrested first wll want to get even, so you can almost count on doubling your money. All you need are a couple of badges and a few chairs for the jail.

I hope these ideas get you started thinking. Good look with your fundraiser.
